| 811.1.d.1.a. |
This includes hidden gear, and overrides the normal restriction that gear have in only being allowed to be played to base. > |
| 811.1.d.2. |
If a hidden spell chooses any targets, those targets must be chosen from among options at the battlefield it was played from, unless it explicitly restricts targeting in such a way that makes this impossible. > |
Example: Emperor’s Divide is a spell with hidden that reads in part “Move any number of friendly units at a battlefield to their base.” When this spell is played from facedown, all units chosen for the spell must be located at the same battlefield it was played from. > |
| 811.1.d.3. |
If a play effect of a hidden permanent chooses any targets, those targets must be chosen from among options at the battlefield it was played to, unless the ability explicitly restricts targeting in a way that makes this impossible. > |
| 811.1.d.3.a. |
A play effect of a permanent played from facedown references information from its source when determining what battlefield it was played from and what targets are legal. > |
Example: A unit reads in part “When you play me, kill another friendly unit.” If it is played from the facedown zone, the play effect must choose a friendly unit at the battlefield the unit was played from. If the unit is no longer on the board when the play effect attempts to finalize, it will not be able to choose a legal target. If the unit is no longer on the board when the play effect attempts to resolve, the play effect will not be able to reference the information of where the unit was played from, and it will mistarget. > |
Example: Blastcone Fae is a unit with Hidden and “When you play me, give a unit -2 [M] this turn, to a minimum of 1 [M].” Because this is a play effect, its target must be chosen from among units at the battlefield it was played to if Blastcone Fae was played from facedown. > |
